HOW TO MAKE LARGE SEGMENTS OPPOSITE ON THE UPPER BAND

Here are ways to get same-color large segments opposite. Each time you make them opposite, return to the directions for Stage 2.

Option 1

Look for same-color segments on the UPPER and LOWER BANDS that are diagonal to each other. Place your fingers along the vertical groove shared by the segments and TWIST. (Twist the right side of the ball if the LOWER BAND segment is to the right OR the left side of the ball if the LOWER BAND segment is to the left of the same-color segment on the UPPER BAND.) The segments are now opposite on the UPPER BAND.

OPTION 1

Option 2

Look for same-color segments on the UPPER BAND that have one segment between them. Put your fingers along the vertical groove to the left of the same-color segment on the right and TWIST. Move your finger over one vertical groove to the right and TWIST again. The same-color segments are now opposite on the UPPER BAND.

OPTION 2

Option 3

Sometimes colors get stuck together side by side. To solve these you may mix up some of the colors you already matched. You will have to go back and fix them after you solve the colors that are stuck together. Now, place you fingers along the vertical groove that separates the stuck segments and TWIST the right half of the ball. Next, locate the LOWER BAND segment directly under the same-color segment that did not move, and TURN it one position to the right. Put your fingers along the vertical groove to the right of the segment you just moved and TWIST. Now, TURN the LOWER BAND segments one position to the left. Look at the UPPER BAND. The same- color segments that were stuck together now have one segment between them. Line them up opposite using the steps in Option 2, above then go on to solve the color. (Note: There may be another pair of same-color segments opposite on the UPPER BAND already. Ignore them for now solve the colors that were stuck.) After you solve the stuck colors, look for any colors that got messed up and fix them.

OPTION 3

If none of the segments on your ball line up like those described in Options 1, 2, and 3, make several TWISTS along the vertical grooves until you see a combination that you can work with. Do not allow the BANDS or POLES to TURN while you make the TWISTS.
