Why Fairfax County Needs A Land Trust |
|
Lying between the Piedmont Plateau and the Coastal
Plain, Fairfax exhibits scenic and historic qualities with areas of mature
deciduous forests and wetlands. And limited time remains to protect
the natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources for public use and
enjoyment. |
 |
Park land and other natural and historic areas define our community's character, quality of life, and sustain ecological health. |
 |
Open space in Fairfax County is dramatically declining, falling by over 30,00 acres, 11.5% of the county's total acreage, in the last decade. |
 |
Public Funding for open space acquisition has virtually disappeared, while, from 1980 to 1993, the population has increased by 43% creating more development and less open space. |
 |
Immediate action by private citizens can provide the support necessary
to preserve the remaining resources and ensure sufficient open land for future
generations. |
